Daekyo Culture Foundation Launches Call for Entries for the 34th Noonopi Children’s Literature Awards
Daekyo Culture Foundation, in partnership with the World Youth Culture Foundation, announced that submissions for the 34th Noonopi Children’s Literature Awards will be accepted through August 31. The competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea.
The Noonopi Children’s Literature Awards is one of Korea’s largest literary competitions dedicated to children’s literature. Established to promote the development of children’s literature and discover emerging literary talent, the competition is now in its 34th year. It continues to identify promising new writers in the fields of children’s stories and picture books while providing children and teenagers with opportunities to showcase their creative abilities.
Over the years, the competition has helped launch the careers of numerous authors and produced many outstanding works, contributing significantly to the growth of Korea’s children’s literature landscape. To encourage broader participation from creators of various backgrounds, the Daekyo Culture Foundation has further diversified the competition categories this year.
The competition consists of four main divisions:
Children’s Literature ? for both emerging and established writers
Youth Literature ? for middle and high school students
Children’s Poetry Literature ? for elementary school students
Global Literature ? open to children and youth from Korea and abroad, with submissions written in English
In addition, the Children’s Cartoon Contest, which encourages children to express their imagination freely, will be held as a supplementary event alongside the main competition.
The total prize pool is worth approximately KRW 100 million. In the Children’s Literature division, the grand prize winner in the children’s story category will receive KRW 20 million, while the grand prize winner in the picture book category will receive KRW 10 million. Award-winning works will also receive publication and promotional support.
Furthermore, one grand prize winner from the Children’s Literature division (story or picture book category) will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, while the grand prize winner of the Youth Literature division will receive the Minister of Education Award.
More information about the competition is available on the official Noonopi Children’s Literature Awards website. The winners are scheduled to be announced in October.
