Daekyo announced that it will launch “Milchak Dokseo,” a reading management program designed to help preschoolers and lower-grade elementary school students develop healthy reading habits and improve literacy skills, on the 21st.

Amid growing recognition of the importance of reading and literacy education, highlighted by the government’s nationwide “Reading Nation” initiative and the Ministry of Education’s announcement of measures to promote reading education in schools, Daekyo introduced the program to help young learners build foundational reading skills before beginning more formal reading instruction.

“Milchak Dokseo” provides comprehensive reading support, with teachers guiding children through every stage of the process, from recommending books suited to their reading levels and interests to practicing reading fluency, completing post-reading activities, and monitoring their progress. The program aims to help children read books appropriate for their abilities consistently and develop the confidence to express their understanding in their own words.

The book collection covers eight subject areas, including classics and humanities, society and culture, and mathematics and science. Based on KReaD (Korean Reading and Decoding), a Korean reading comprehension index developed by Daekyo, books are classified into three difficulty levels. The curriculum also distinguishes between fiction and nonfiction, taking into account the reading comprehension skills required for school learning. Teachers recommend suitable books by considering each child’s age, reading proficiency, interests, and reading history.

During lessons, children practice reading fluency, focusing on accurate pronunciation, appropriate reading speed, and proper phrasing. Teachers provide feedback tailored to each child’s reading level. After reading, quizzes and a growth journal help assess how well children have understood the material. Reading records and post-reading activities are accumulated in a growth management system, enabling teachers to continuously monitor each child’s reading proficiency and development over time.

“Milchak Dokseo” is available at 64 Eye-Level Learning Centers nationwide, Daekyo High Campus, and 17 Soluni academies. Further information is available on the Daekyo Macadamia website.

A Daekyo representative said, “For children to maintain a consistent reading habit, it is important for them to find books suited to their level and experience enjoyment and a sense of achievement throughout the reading process. Through Milchak Dokseo, we aim to help children build confidence in reading and develop the habit of independently seeking out books to read.”
