Daekyo Educamp announced that it has been selected for five consecutive years as the operating institution for Seoul’s learning and emotional mentoring support program for children of North Korean defectors.
Since 2022, Daekyo Educamp has been supporting children of North Korean defectors living in Seoul through “Dream Mentor,” a specialized counseling and emotional support organization, to help them stably adapt to Korean society.
With this latest selection, Daekyo Educamp will operate the program until December of this year, providing tailored academic and emotional support services for children aged 4 to middle school level from families of North Korean defectors residing in Seoul.
The Dream Mentor program consists of ▲ one-on-one customized home-visit learning, ▲ emotional mentoring, ▲ basic academic ability diagnosis, and ▲ educational and counseling services for parents. Participants can receive 33 individualized home-visit learning sessions (1 hour per week per person), studying subjects of their choice such as Korean language, English, and mathematics. In addition, emotional mentoring includes psychological counseling and emotional coaching to support healthy emotional development.
Since 2015, Dream Mentor has been providing one-on-one customized learning support services to improve the foundational academic abilities of children from North Korean defector families. Last year alone, it supported learning and emotional mentoring services for around 110 children from such families residing in Seoul.
A Daekyo Educamp representative stated, “Being selected for five consecutive years as an operating institution for this project is meaningful as it recognizes the achievements of our educational support efforts so far. We will continue to support children so that they can experience positive changes in both learning and emotional development and grow up in a healthy way.”
