Daekyo’s Family Musical ‘Numberblocks’ Tops Ticket Reservation Charts ? World’s First Stage Adaptation Becomes a Hit
Daekyo announced on April 9 that the world’s first family musical adaptation of Numberblocks has achieved great success, topping ticket reservation rankings immediately upon its premiere.
Numberblocks ranked No.1 in children and family performance categories on major ticketing platforms Interpark and Ticketlink for both February and March, in terms of monthly and annual reservations. It has maintained the top spot through the first week of April, with weekend seat occupancy rates reaching 96%, continuing its strong performance.
The musical, which opened on March 30, has received enthusiastic responses from families interested in educational content, thanks to its high-quality stage production, orchestral music, and engaging educational messages.
The show is based on the popular UK math animation Numberblocks by the BBC. Daekyo acquired the domestic performance rights and collaborated with theater production company Brush Theatre to bring the world’s first official Numberblocks musical to life. Notably, Numberblocks creator Joe Elliot directly participated in the production, enhancing its overall quality and authenticity.
The musical features personified number characters who sing and dance, helping children naturally grasp fundamental math concepts. It has been praised as a representative example of “edutainment,” successfully blending learning and play. Building on the success of its premiere, Daekyo plans to expand the show through regional tours and overseas performances.
The Numberblocks musical is being performed at Theater Yong, located in the National Museum of Korea, until June 1. On weekdays, there is one performance at 11 a.m., while weekends and holidays feature three performances at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. The show runs for approximately 70 minutes.
A Daekyo spokesperson stated, “Numberblocks is a piece of content that aligns perfectly with Daekyo’s educational philosophy and vision. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the edutainment market by expanding converged content based on global IP.”
In addition to musicals and content licensing, Daekyo is actively developing its IP business and operates children’s channel Daekyo Kids TV and the lifestyle channel for active seniors, Daekyo NewLife Plus.
