Daekyo Cultural Foundation Holds the 33rd Noonoppi Children’s Literature Awards Ceremony
The Daekyo Cultural Foundation announced on the 1st that it held the 33rd Noonoppi Children’s Literature Awards ceremony on November 28 at Daekyo Tower.
The ceremony was organized across several categories?Children’s Literature, Youth Literature, Children’s Poetry, and Global Literature?as well as a special side event, the Children’s Cartoon Contest. A total of 148 individuals received awards.
In the Children’s Literature category, the grand prize for fairy tales was awarded to author Kim Min-seon for Lure, earning 20 million won in prize money along with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award. The grand prize for picture books went to Ahn Hye-ri for I’m Sorry, accompanied by 10 million won in prize money. The grand prize?winning works will be published as books and introduced as content to encourage children’s reading and creative activities.
In the Youth Literature category, open to middle and high school students, Jung Yang-geon, a second-year student at Daejeon Mannyeon High School, won the grand prize for Operation: Robot Assassination, receiving the Minister of Education Award and cultural gift certificates worth 1 million won.
In the Children’s Poetry category, open to elementary school students, Bus No. 455 by Lee Yu-gyeom, a second-grade student at Jeju Oedo Elementary School, won the grand prize. The group award was presented to Daegu Youngshin Elementary School, marking its sixth consecutive win.
In the Global Literature category, the grand prize for English Picture Diary was awarded to Ker Grayson Yu Chen from Hong Kong, while the grand prize for English Writing went to Xi Tsz Ching, also from Hong Kong. They received prize money of USD 500 and USD 1,000, respectively. The group award for English Picture Diary was presented to iLevel Hong Kong.
As a side event, the Children’s Cartoon Contest awarded the grand prize to Lee Ye-ji, a sixth-grade student at Gyori Elementary School, for Just Nyang-i, along with cultural gift certificates worth 1 million won.
A representative of the Daekyo Cultural Foundation stated, “Over the past 33 years, the Noonoppi Children’s Literature Awards have contributed to the development of children’s literature in Korea by encouraging children’s creative activities under the vision of ‘a warm world drawn by children’s hearts.’ We will continue to support aspiring writers in pursuing their dreams through diverse genres and new initiatives.”
