Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages (GAFL) - all the students who completed IBDP this year had passed the university entrance exam and entered national / international elite universities.
GAFL was the only high school that introduced international baccalaureate diploma programme (IBDP) in 2011 in Korea and GAFL achieved significant success in university entrance examination that 24 out of 38 students who completed IBDP passed the exam and entered elite universities in the world.
These universities are ranked in the world top 70 universities - London Imperial College (UK), Berkeley University, LA University, Cornell University, and Carnegie Mellon University (USA). Also 14 students who wanted to enter national university entered Yonsei University (10 students) and Korea University (4 student).
Once completing GAFL IBDP, students obtain both national high school graduation certificate and international academic degree certificate. GAFL’s IBDP course composed of a group of 6 general subjects (literature, language acquisition and application, individual and society, practical science, mathematics / computer science, arts) and 3 key subjects (creativity / action / service, extended essay, theory of knowledge).
Students select one subject from 6 general subjects. The total period of program is 2 years. Also the number of students who take this program is limited to 15 per class. All the classes are operated discussion and presentation and the exam is based on descriptive type and essay type test that modeled after IB external assessment which is the last gateway of IBDP.
In order to operate IBDP, it must pass IBO’s strict screening. The area of screening contains number of books in the library, actual training equipment for science and so on. After two years preparation, GAFL received the stamp of approval from IBO.
