Korea Scout Association President Dr Kang Young Joong was awarded the Kiggi Medal from Scout Association of Japan on 8 January 2012.
Since Dr Kang started his presidency in 2008, Dr Kang maintained friendly relations with Japan and gave his full support to Scout in order to conduct people-to-people diplomatic activities. Dr Kang also sent 1,00,000 bottles of Deep Sea water which is worth approximately one hundred million and seven thousand won to help Japanese who suffered from the worst earthquake on record. Dr Kang received high praise from his various and active activities in further developing the relationship between Korea and Japan including signing on MOU between two countries in 2012 which sees the 90th anniversary of Korea and Japan’s foundation.
The Kiggi Medal represents pheasant which is Japan’s national bird and it is the First Distinguished Service Medal of Scout Association of Japan.
Since its foundation, only 31 people who rendered distinguished services to Scout for a long time awarded this medal and most of them are head of state or important figures such as President Nixon (USA), Queen Elizabeth (England) and Carl Gustaf (Sweden). In Republic of South Korea, Dr Kang became the 3rd winner of the Medal after former Governor Kim, Jong Pil and former President of KSA Park, Gun Bae.
