Chairman Kang, Young-joong Donates USD30,000 to BWF
Chairman Kang, Young-joong of the World Youth and Culture Foundation donated USD30,000 to the Badminton World Federation, as part of the project of the Foundation, which is established with an aim of further developing the world sports.
The donation comes from the prize for Sang Huh Grand Award in Academic and Educational Area that Dr. Kang had received in May.
Since the establishment of Daekyo in 1976, Chairman Kang has been developing the education business. Now, the company ranks number one in Korea’s education business, and he has been devoted to supporting the education area by launching the Noonnoppi Education Awards.
Furthermore, in order to nurture global-minded young talents, Daekyo took over Myeongji Foreign Language High School, changed its name to Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages and is turning the school into one of the most prestigious high schools in Korea. And the World Youth & Culture Foundation was established in 2007 in order to help improve educational environment for youths in less developed countries.
Dr. Kang has been the Chair of the Korea Scout Association since 2008 and is involved in many projects with aims of encouraging learning and supporting education for students. And since 2005 when Dr. Kang took office as President of the BWF, he has been making contribution to the development of not only badminton in Korea but also overall sports around the globe.
Having been recognized of his works, Chairman Kang was granted the Order of Culture Merit in 2004 and the Korea Management Award in 2005 from the Korea Management Association.
Upon receiving the award, Chairman Kang said, “one of the most important business philosophy over the last three decades has been keeping the right path. I will focus on promoting the education business in order to help all young people around the world exercise their rights to learn no matter what their environments may be. I will make utmost effort to make visible development in global sports, and in particular, I will make further contribution to help our youth build the right sense of value and lead healthy lives through sports.”
The Sang Huh Grand Award of the Sang Huh Culture Foundation was established in 1990 in order to commemorate the philosophy of Dr. Yu, Seok-chang, who had founded the Konkuk University and the Konkuk University Medical Center. He had devoted himself to saving the lives of the poor by nurturing human talents and improving the medical skills, spreading the national culture and building a welfare & culture state. The award is granted to those who made great contributions for the development of human society in six areas of academy & education, medicine, agriculture, law, media and culture & arts.
Judges of the Sang Huh Grand Award were Advisor Lee, Eo-ryeong of the JoongAng Daily (former Minister for Culture), President Lee, Ki-su of Korea University, Professor Park, Jae-gap of Seoul National University and Director Lee, Chang-hong of Konkuk University Medical Center.
