Farewell Mr. President - BWF

Dr. Kang, the Chairman of Daekyo Co. Ltd., and former President of BWF visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 15 2013 till May 21 in order to attend BWF AGM, Members’ Forum, Council Meeting and Women’s Forum. Starting from 2005, Dr. Kang served as BWF President for 8 years.

During his presidency, Dr. Kang always emphasized and tried to make more democratic and transparent international federation. Also the financial status became very strong as up until just a few years ago, it depended heavily on Olympic Income but now BWF creates huge revenue from BWF Major Games and Super Series.

In last December, Dr. Kang officially announced that he would not seek reelection as he believed BWF has secured safe position and it was right time to make a change for further development of BWF. Also he proved himself that changing of constitution regarding BWF Council’s term limit was not for his own benefit but for the good of BWF.

“Although my role as BWF President is finished, I will continue my effort to find ways to expand the base and make activate Women, Youth and Para Badminton.” Dr. Kang said.

When President Dr. Kang finished his last closing remark in his last AGM, Dr. Kang received a standing ovation from all the MAs, BWF lifetime honorary vice presidents, BWF Councils, BWF Staffs and observers.

In the meantime, Poul Erick - Hoyer, Atlanta Olympic Badminton Gold-Medalist elected as new BWF President.
