President Dr. Kang visited London Olympic Games 2012
President Dr. Kang, Young Joong visited London from July 26 till August 5 to attend the Olympic Badminton Games.
Dr. Kang and BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund had meeting in the early July to check the progress and review preparation and before the first day of Olympic Badminton match, BWF Council Briefing and Meeting were convened to make sure all the council members well acquainted with their role.
European royalty including the attendance of Prince Charles and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark as well as visits by IOC President, Dr. Jacques Rogge, Chairman of the LOCOG, Lord Sebastian Coe, President of Finland and Singapore highlighted the nine-day event at Wembley Arena.
BWF’s hospitality function which was held in the Olympic Family Lunge on Tuesday, 31 July was a good opportunity to promote Badminton and build network with several dignitaries such as members of various NOC.
During the Function, Dr. Rogge and Dr. Kang featured brief speeches and BWF arranged for artist to draw caricature of distinguished guest include Dr. Rogge.
Meanwhile, former IBF President and the new Vice-President of the IOC’s Executive Board, Sir Craig Reedie also visited Wembley Arena and lent his support to the competition.
Spectators from many of the record 51 nations represented in badminton at the London 2012 Olympics came armed with their flags, celebrating every point and victory won in their country’s name. While China won all 5 gold medals it also set record in the number of countries winning the medals - Korea, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Denmark, India and Russia.
