BWF President Kang, Young-joong Visits Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games
President Kang, along with IOC-related personnel, IF Presidents and other distinguished guests from Singapore, was invited to the SYOG Welcome Party which was hosted by IOC President Jacques Rogge on August 17, 2010. In the party, President Kang sent Dr. Rogge a congratulatory message to wish him a successful first youth Olympic games and joined other IF Presidents and IOC members in celebrating the successful beginning of IOC’s new challenge.
On August 19, when badminton finals were held, IOC President Jacques Rogge visited the indoor stadium and witnessed historic records. For the first time, Thailand won the gold medals of boys’ and girls’ singles badminton, and Vietnam won its first Olympic medal ever. President Rogge said that it was a truly historic day for badminton. He also added that it is desirable to have top players from many different countries for each sport and commented that he wishes to see more countries that can take the first place for each event taking this YOG as an opportunity.
On the same day, in order to congratulate a successful YOG and as a way of showing appreciation to the IOC for its considerations for badminton, BWF presented a T-shirt and badminton racket to Dr. Rogge with his name on, and in return, the IOC awarded BWF’s President Kang and Deputy Vice President Paisan Rangsikitpho a plaque of appreciation.
