Chairman Kang, Young-joong - Great Supporter for Ji, Eun-hee, A Diamond in the Rough
Ji, Eun-hee won the U.S. Women’s Open at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on July 13th, 2009.
Her victory is an outcome of joint efforts of many around her. Though Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province has now become an eminent place for golf in Korea, it was not a very attractive place to play golf in early 1990’s when Eun-hee began the sport. Due to lack of decent place for practice, Eun-hee’s father had to borrow land from one of his acquaintances to make one himself.
It was when Eun-hee was in 10th grade in Gapyeong High School that she met her great sponsor. It was Chairman Kang, Young-joong of Daekyo. Chairman Kang, who is the owner of the Midas Valley Golf Club located in Gapyeong, recognized her talent and provided her with scholarship. He also let her use the golf club for practice whenever she wished to. Eun-hee’s father said, “One person who came to mind first upon my daughter’s victory was Chairman Kang. He even lit the golf course for her when she needed to practice at night.”
