Foreigner Joins Daekyo Kangaroos Women’s Football Club
The 2009 Daekyo Noonnoppi WK League started this year, and a foreigner female football player joins Daekyo women’s football club for the first time in Korea.
The Daekyo Kangaroos Women’s Football Club said on April 16th that Delma Goncalves (34 years old) from Brazil has joined them. They signed a one-year contract, and whether to extend the contract or not would depend on her performance this season.
Delma began her professional football career since 1989 when she was fourteen by joining Brazil’s Mendaha Football Club, and she has also played for Washington’s Freedom in 2001 and San Jose CyberRace from 2002 to 2003.
After a one-year break, she went to Japan to play for Japanese women’s football league for four years. Last year, in particular, Delma demonstrated her wonderful skills, participating in a total of 19 games and recording 18 goals and 10 assists.
Though she may be little short for a football player with a height of 157cm and is in her mid-30s, she boasts superb technique, speed and instinct.
She was selected as member of the Brazilian National Football Team in 1991, and she participated in all of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
